============================================= dyslogy for Karol Wojtyla (Pope John Paul II) ============================================= by Andrew Main (Zefram) 2005-04-02 author's note ------------- This extremely brief dyslogy was not originally intended to stand alone, but rather to be part of a collection of single-paragraph eulogies published by BBC News on the occasion of the death of the Bishop of Rome [TRIBUTES]. It was submitted for such publication, but was not in fact published by the BBC. dyslogy ------- Good riddance to the man who has done more than anyone else to retard social progress in our time. By his opposition to reproductive planning he has been a major contributor to the spread of poverty and disease; the shanty towns of Mexico City and the AIDS epidemic in Africa are his legacy. He has consistently promoted discrimination and intolerance, opposing equal rights for women and for homosexuals. By involving himself in secular affairs he has obstructed the separation of church and state. We can only hope for an electoral surprise to deliver a successor possessing the senses of humanity and humility that Karol Wojtyla so sorely lacked. references ---------- [TRIBUTES] BBC News, "Pope John Paul II: Your tributes", 2005-04-22T22:38+01:00, .
