I'm assuming 'Sad but true' applies only to your opinion and not to
what your suggesting.  I think across the board teams always try to
play to the highest level of spirit with the only exception I've seem
being complete beginner coming from a sport that doesn't have such a
philosophy.  I certainly don't think players at in the 1v2 match
exhibit any more spirited play than those playing the 21v22 match.
Given the intensity of the higher matches, players are required to
make more tight calls giving them more experience calling tight
situations.  At lower levels players simply often have less experience
and do try to make smart calls but often get things wrong.  This isn't
unspirited.  It's a learning experience.  I think it really goes both
ways.  I'm sure there are random players with more experience who
might use their knowledge of the rules to their advantage.  I think
this is very rare.  On the other hand I've never seen a game of
ultimate at the lower levels referred to as a 'call-fest' as much as I
have at the top level (eg. EUCF and Turku).
