Just my opinion, from my experience of soliciting bids...

Lots of people out there are loath to put in the effort of getting a
bid together when they don't think they'll get the tournament. This
applies particularly to folk in out of the way places like Scotland,
and to those who haven't hosted tours before. After I'd already found
a venue for one of this year's indoor tournaments, a desperate
request for bids was accidentally included in the Member Update. All
of a sudden, because people felt that there was less competition, I
received a hatful of expressions of interest within a few hours.
Perhaps a wee page on the website detailing which venues had put a
bid in for which tourney would allow people to see whether it was
worth the effort of putting a bid together.
And at the simplest level, if something went out on BD every single
week saying, 'We still have no bids, please help,' then I'm pretty
sure someone would get off their behind and do something about it.
There is a definite feeling amongst some of the younger potential TDs
that these tourneys always go to the same folk. This is in fact
because they're the only ones bidding, but we perhaps need to
emphasise to people that they've a fair chance if they put a good bid in.
This isn't in any way a dig at Si or Hannah who are working hard on
things; just a suggestion that a bit of cajoling can shake loose some
bids that otherwise might not appear.
