[BD] Copa Cabana

Dear Britdisc,

in light of recent observations re: tournaments and their running, I feel
compelled to voice my disapproval of certain aspects of Copa Cabana 2006.

1. Three days is clearly too much ultimate. I mean yes, it was fun, but
think of the health risks. Personally I got sun burnt, achy muscles (which
could easily have become something much more serious and possibly fatal),
and picked up a nasty graze on monday which really stings in the shower and
while my wife tells me it isn't much to look at (the graze that is), it
could easily have been avoided if I was at work sitting in front of a
computer. Please be aware that my lawyers have been contacted.

2. Despite recent government advice regarding binge drinking, the tournament
directors felt obliged to lay on two successive socials, where they wantonly
and negligently allowed people to 'have fun', thereby potentially bringing
about an alcohol consumption above that which the government recommends. In
fact, I am all too painfully aware of two of my team mates returning from
the party at eight thirty in the morning, and then attempting to play a game
of Ultimate. The TDs should have done the correct thing and made sure
everybody was in bed by ten o'clock, possibly with a nice mug of bovril,
which I find helps me sleep something wonderful.

3. The tournament was held in Nottingham. We could all have been murdered in
our beds. For shame!

4. Some of the teams were quite flagrantly ignoring the rules regarding
matching kits and shorts.

5. I've run out of points, but this won't stop me moaning. If I've learnt
anything from Britdisc in recent months, it's that you can't take yourself,
a tournament, or Ultimate frisbee too seriously. In fact, there is nothing
sweeter than returning from a tournament and bitching about every little
aspect of it.

6. There were at least three dogs present at the weekend, what if someone
had been allergic?

I hope that the tournament directors will bear my concerns in mind for next
year's event.

Dan
Hucking Hell (for that weekend only)
